Unreliable hurdler who turned in another lacklustre display at Sedgefield last week and looks up against it on these terms.

Verdict

MR SNOOZY sets the standard in this having landed a similar contest on good to soft at Sedgefield last time out. Bear River is interesting on his Rules debut for local trainer Sam England, while Danny Cook has chosen to ride Down Time who looks the pick of the Brian Ellison duo, and may be the danger to the favourite.

Verdict

BEAR RIVER fell on his sole start in points last year but he starts out at a lowly level on Rules debut and could be worth chancing. Mr Snoozy sets the standard and will be a danger if in the same form as last time, while Down Time is also respected dropped in grade.

Maiden pointer who never landed a blow in Carlisle bumper in 2014. Hasn't been seen since and likely best watched on belated return making chase debut.

Verdict

Sue Smith's DELUSIONOFGRANDEUR got back to winning ways last time out at Catterick, having had his sights raised the time before in a Grade 2 over course and distance, and will be difficult to beat in this class three contest. Petethepear is in receipt of 10lb from the selection on his chase debut but will have to improve on his first racecourse appearance since October. I Know The Code and Thedfactor look up against it.

Verdict

DELUSIONOFGRANDEUR sets a pretty high standard and it will be disappointing if he doesn't record his third win over fences. Petethepear is a fairly useful hurdler and looks the danger now making his chase debut.

Placed 3 times over hurdles in the autumn and stamina probably stretched over 2½m on heavy ground when fading into fifth here on Boxing Day. Better expected returned to 2m.

Verdict

Jonjo O'Neill is always respected when running horses here and Sigurd sets the standard in this contest. However, THE GRINDER has chased home a 133-rated animal at Doncaster and his opening mark of 112 looks a fair one with jockey Tom Broughton claiming 10lb. Our Thomas has failed to deliver so far but has been dropped another 2lb which brings him into consideration here alongside Hartside, who was well fancied at Doncaster last time out.

Verdict

CRICKEL WOOD failed to set the world alight over fences, but is back on his last winning mark and the combination of a return to timber and drop back to 2m is expected to prompt an upturn in his fortunes. Similar trip comments apply to Cloud Monkey and he is feared, with Taweyla another to consider.

Verdict

Mick Easterby is respected here and his Banny's Lad should go well again despite a 5lb rise. However, it will be interesting to see if Rebecca Menzies can eke out any improvement from CLUES AND ARROWS on his first start for the Sedgefield handler. Of the remainder Swing Hard is respected, while Sergeant Pink is considered as an each-way alternative, as he is 2lb lower than his last winning mark and is racing from the foot of the handicap.

Verdict

CLUES AND ARROWS was a 125-rated hurdler in his prime and Nortonthorpelegend, who made a similar stable switch earlier in the season, was quick to rack up a sequence for Rebecca Menzies, so expect an improved showing from the selection on his first outing for 9 months. Lightly-raced ex-pointer Powerful Symbol should be thereabouts again along with The Cobbler Swayne.

Yet to better poor form in this sphere and has his work cut out once more from out the weights.

Verdict

John Kington's 3lb claim could be crucial for BROADWAY BELLE as she tries to take advantage of the same mark as her Newcastle third. Silver Shuffle is respected and could open his account for the season for trainer Dianne Sayer and jockey Brian Hughes if the selection was to falter. Of the remainder, keep an eye on Pretty Miss Mahler, who drops back in trip and has the assistance of cheekpieces for trainer Martin Todhunter.

Verdict

DOKTOR GLAZ has clearly been difficult to train but he suggested he may still have something to offer when third over further at Carlisle last month, a lack of fitness/stamina both legitimate excuses. He gets the narrow vote to build on that now, with Mount Russell, Pretty Miss Mahler and Silver Shuffle other likely players.

Verdict

Division two of the novice handicap could see ASK PADDY complete a four-timer for Sam and Jonathan England. The admirable Peppay Le Pugh could give him most to think about with the application of first-time cheekpieces, while Captain Mowbray and Jester Jet are also respected with the former bringing a wealth of course and distance experience to the table.

Verdict

JESTER JET is unexposed and promised more on a couple of occasions for Tony Carroll, so she's taken to improve past a mark of 98 starting life for Tom Lacey after 9 months off. Four-timer seeking Ask Paddy will ensure it's not plain sailing for the selection, while Captain Mowbray deserves a mention having been in reasonable form lately.
