Verdict

Godolphin have been firing in the winners lately and Charlie Appleby sent out their first two-year-old winner of the season at Newmarket earlier this week with Sound And Silence. Therefore, their Gold Town must come under serious consideration here. Acclamation has two of his offspring to consider here with Embour, a 145,000 pound purchase who commands respect, and QAARAAT who gets the nod representing Sheik Hamdan El Maktoum and was a 200,000 guinea buy from the sales ring.

Verdict

The market is sure to be informative but EMBOUR gets a tentative vote for the Hannon/Moore combination. Gold Town, Qaaraat and Headway are just a few others who make appeal on paper in what is invariably a strong early-season contest.

Two wins from 6 runs last year. Creditable third of 8 in handicap at Newcastle (16.2f, 4/1) 30 days ago. Not got many miles on the clock so may do better still.

Verdict

Star Rider has been tried over hurdles recently but was a dual winner on the Flat last season and needs respecting now back on the level. Alan King's Oceane was behind Hughie Morrison's mare at Goodwood last season but himself won two staying contests last term and can play a part here. However, preference is for the other Barbury Castle runner in the field, RAINBOW DREAMER, who was a likeable juvenile over hurdles, rated highly enough by connections compete at the Cheltenham Festival, and shaped up nicely on his return to the Flat at Leicester lately. Ryan Moore is an eye-catching booking in the saddle.

Verdict

OCEANE boasts some strong 4-y-o form and will be suited by the step back up in trip/return to turf. Star Rider is another with conditions to suit and finished in front of the selection at Goodwood last summer, while Swashbuckle has few miles on the clock so may do better still.

Dansili filly who made a winning debut at Yarmouth in October, impressing with her attitude as she reeled in the runner-up. Sort to make up into a useful performer.

Verdict

Raheen House was a brave fourth in the Racing Post Trophy on his last start as a two-year-old and it is not hard to envisage the son of Sea The Stars having more to give as a stronger, older horse. DUBAWI PRINCE managed to lose his maiden tag at Doncaster recently over this distance and is respected while the Royal runner Maths Prize is also worthy of consideration. However preference is for one of the Prince Khalid Abdullah runners, SHUTTER SPEED, who won nicely over a mile on debut at Yarmouth last season and looks the type to relish the step up to a mile and a quarter here, in the hands of Frankie Dettori.

Verdict

There wasn't much between RAHEEN HOUSE and Temple Church in the Haynes, Hanson and Clark Conditions Stakes here in September but the former has since gone on to finish fourth in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster so is narrowly preferred. John Gosden has won the last 2 renewals of this so debut-winners Shutter Speed and Enable have to be respected in what looks a fascinating renewal.

Verdict

This event usually goes the way of a high-class filly, as highlighted by Dancing Rain, who took a division of this race in 2011 prior to winning the Epsom Oaks a couple of months later. MORI is the second foal out of the multiple Group 1 winner Midday and that makes the daughter of Frankel a half-sister to Midterm, who was a Group 3 winner last season. The Jean Genie looked to have a bright future ahead of her when second on debut at Haydock last September, while Many Waters and Fashion Theory look sure to pick up a race sometime this season. Nafaayes, a granddaughter of Al Bahathri, and Miss Liguria are other debutants to note, while Star Rock is one to keep an eye on with middle-distance handicaps in mind after today.

Verdict

Potentially a warm fillies' maiden. THE JEAN GENIE looked a good middle-distance prospect when runner-up on her debut at Haydock in September and may prove too strong for well-bred newcomers Mori and Nafaayes this day.

Improved when making it fourth time lucky in maidens at Kempton (7f) in October. Handicap mark looks workable but not as obviously progressive as some of these rivals.

Verdict

CHESSMAN put in a strong performance on debut to win at Kempton in November and the three-year-old is in the best possible hands to continue his progression now ridden by Frankie Dettori. The second from that contest has won since and he might be capable of account for the likes of Pivoine, who looks sure to hold his own this season for powerful connections, and Graphite Storm, who won here last season and will get further than this in time. Winning Ways, Intimate Art and Sterling Silva are others to note in an open contest.

Verdict

Usually a really strong 3-y-o handicap and this year's renewal looks no exception. CHESSMAN looked a good prospect when making a winning debut at Kempton in November and gets the nod for a yard which has won this with the smart pair Gregorian and Muwaary in recent years. Winning Ways, Pivoine and Abatement head the many possible dangers.

Upwardly mobile for William Knight last season, winning a couple of sprint handicaps. Easy to excuse final start in listed event in November, and should have more to offer for new yard this campaign.

Verdict

Mick Easterby has started the turf Flat season in fine form and he is a rare visitor to the Berkshire track so Bowson Fred has to be respected if allowed an easy lead early on, while Soie D'leau is another northern raider who deserves respect after his impressive win in a valuable Doncaster handicap in October last year. The latter certainly has more scope for progress but might find DOUBLE UP too hot to handle. Roger Varian's gelding was expensive to follow last season but could get a nice toe into this contest under Silvestre De Sousa and fresh might be a good time to catch him.

Verdict

LADY MACAPA was progressive in sprint handicaps for William Knight last season, but still appeals as being at the right end of the handicap, so is taken to make a winning return for a yard among the winners. Double Up can go well fresh and looks a big danger, while better can be expected from Sir Robert Cheval this season.
