Useful bumper winner who justified favouritism in maiden/novice hurdles to end 2016. Out of depth in Sandown Grade 2 but landed a few bets on handicap bow at Newcastle last month.

Verdict

The Grade 1 Neptune at Cheltenham last month shaped like a nice race and it would be no surprise to see BURBANK confirm the form for Champion trainer-elect, Nicky Henderson. The five-year-old stayed on well that day and could outstay this field, which includes the progressive Sir Antony Browne and future chaser, Some Invitation. The latter looks poised to go well for a yard that is 7-24 here in recent years, while Kelka and Give Me A Copper also look to have futures and must enter calculations.

Verdict

This is a good-quality novice for the time of year, with BURBANK taking on 4 last-time-out winners and a promising sort in Give Me A Copper. Nicky Henderson's 5-y-o can boast in-frame form in Grade 1 company though, so he should be a tough nut to crack, with Some Invitation selected for the forecast.

Landed back-to-back handicaps towards the end of last year, and shaped as though still in good form more recently, runner-up at Wetherby (2m) last month. Not dismissed lightly.

Verdict

Dan Skelton is always respected when having runners at this meeting and his Azzuri looks one of the likely players on the back of a 6lb drop from the assessor for his Wincanton second last time. However, Brian Ellison's G'DAY AUSSIE has been untouched by the handicapper for his latest placed effort at Wetherby and is a dual scorer this season with more to come. The home challenge looks to be led by Prairie Town, with Jim Goldie's Great Fighter also considered on his Musselburgh form.

Verdict

This looks wide open so GREAT FIGHTER, who caught the eye a couple of times earlier this year, gets the narrow vote. His third behind Project Bluebook at Musselburgh in January has received a number of boosts since, and equipped with a visor/on the back of an AW spin last month, he could represent some value. Azzuri and Captain Brown are a couple of others to consider.

Lightly raced and potentially well treated (fairly useful bumper winner), though form of his disappointing Wetherby run last time doesn't look great. Upped to 3m.

Verdict

Winningtry is a progressive type who should be suited by this drying ground and longer distance, while King Of Fashion is interesting now effectively 7lb lower under handy amateur rider Tom Greatrex. Glingerside is lightly-raced for a six-year-old and may have won last time had his rider not dropped his stick, but ROCKPORTIAN should appreciate having his sights lowered after a fair effort in a hot novice race at Doncaster last time and the booking of Richard Johnson is noteworthy.

Verdict

A hot handicap featuring plenty of promising novices and JUST MILLY could be the pick of them on her handicap debut, looking ahead of her mark and with the longer trip sure to suit. Winningtry fits the mould of other stayers that have done so well for his owner and has to be respected, while Rockportian is another one going handicapping who might not be all that badly treated.

Shaped better than the distance beaten on return over hurdles but has since underperformed both starts over fences. Struggled back over timber next time and plenty to prove now.

Verdict

Theinval ran a cracker when only finding one too strong in a red-hot contest at the Grand National meeting recently and he seems sure to go well again along with Two Taffs, who rarely runs a bad race and must be respected. However, WARRIORS TALE looks a horse on a steep upward curve at present and maintained his progression when running out an easy winner at Newbury last month. There should be plenty more to come and a bold hat-trick bid beckons.

Verdict

A high-quality handicap with plenty to consider but TWO TAFFS shaped very well in this headgear combination when third of 20 in a handicap at the Cheltenham Festival last month and he can win at this meeting for the second year running. Warriors Tale and Theinval head the dangers.

Lightly-raced sort who upped his game to land a Kelso handicap chase in good style last month and could easily do better again with the switch to less testing ground unlikely to be an issue.

Verdict

NOMOREBLACKJACK has been in fine order at Catterick of late, landing back-to-back races over 2m3f, and was seemingly very well treated when first handed his mark of 105 in December. He's up 13lb for his latest success to a perch of 125 but may have more to offer, likewise Forest Des Aigles, who scored with plenty of authority at Kelso latest. Any money for Irish raider Chitu, who debuts for a new stable, would also be noteworthy.

Verdict

NOMOREBLACKJACK has made all in such emphatic style at Catterick the last twice that it's hard to see the handicapper catching up with him for a while. He's a confident selection to land the hat-trick despite the slightly stiffer track, with the other unexposed sort, Forest Des Aigles, his biggest danger ahead of Ash Park.

Progressive 5-time winner in 2016, but her run of good form has come to a halt the last twice. Likely she'll find this too competitive.

Verdict

RONS DREAM is 5lb higher than when winning this contest 12 months ago but her six-length victory from Jessber's Dream, who reopposes in first-time blinkers this afternoon, at Warwick in January suggests she's improved subsequently. She's entitled to leave behind her two latest efforts in Grade One company now back in a handicap. Debdebdeb is unexposed over 3m, while there may be more to come from last-time-out Listed second Happy Diva.

Verdict

It's possible the step up to 3m will see DEBDEBDEB pull out a bit more and she gets a narrow vote in a tight affair. Timeforwest is 20 lb higher than when completing her hat-trick at Kempton but it's unlikely to prevent this progressive mare getting involved. Jessber's Dream, who is blinkered for the first time, and last year's winner Rons Dream also make the shortlist.
